CHOOSE REAL FOOD
Choose foods that are fresh, local and in season as much as possible.
Choose food that is raised naturally without chemicals hormones, and antibiotics.
Choose food that is raised sustainably in a manner that optimizes health of the soil.
Choose food that is grown respecting nature, land, animals, people and communities.
Buy only foods that are free from genetically modified organisms (GMO-free).
Support local, sustainable family farms and buy foods directly from the grower, shop at the Farmers Markets, through a CSA, or at a store supporting local agriculture.
CHOOSE AUTHENTIC ORGANIC FOOD NOT COMMERCIAL ORGANICS
The popularity of organics has watered down quality. Large corporations are now growing foods ‘organically’ on factory farms, with no concern for the sustainability of their endeavours. These are not quality foods. Quality food can only be raised within the dynamics of a sustainable farm that balances the ecosystem of the soil, plants, and animals, ensuring healthy and nutritious foods for generations to come.
GROW YOUR OWN VEGETABLES
Even if it’s just a few salad greens, For inspiration on eating fresh foods from your home garden in our climate all year long, see Elliot Coleman’s Four Season Harvest.
THE CONCERN ABOUT GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS
Genetically modified foods have been allowed onto our plates without passing safety studies. Foods containing GM ingredients are not permitted to be labelled as such in North America. The most common GM foods are corn, soy, canola and cottonseed, which means that pretty much all processed foods contain GM ingredients. Research shows concerning effects from GM foods on human health. Just as concerning is its impact on the environment and farmers.
